I have never been one to talk about politics. And I have always believed that I cannot select a candidate for political office based on just one issue. Until now.

And it turns out that issue is . . . vaccines.

I am filled with indignation, anger and fear when I read the stories of unvaccinated children being unnecessarily exposed to measles due to the choices by parents who have selected not to vaccinate their children.

While it might be tempting to try to argue with anyone who chooses not to vaccinate, I am certain that it is a lost cause – They are well educated, well read, and they believe they are doing what’s best for their children. (To the woman in the New York Times article I ask, what’s more toxic, measles or the MMR vaccine?)

And as much as I believe they are idiots for not vaccinating their children, I’m pretty sure they think parents like me are at best naive, and at worst ignorant, in our belief that vaccinations work. Unfortunately, the only way to convince these people that the diseases are more dangerous than the vaccines is for children to die from measles.

isn’t that awful? It makes me want to scream.

While I have little patience for these parents, I have NO patience or understanding for any politician spouting off nonsense about how vaccines can lead to mental disorders, or should be a choice. (I’m looking at your Rand Paul). Whether you actually believe these things, or are just saying it to get ahead politically, and don’t understand the impact you make with these statements, then you must be an idiot.

And if you are an idiot, how can I trust you to make good choices on other issues? So why would I elect you to any political office?

If anything, I might join the campaign for the other guy/gal just so I can make sure any more idiots don’t get elected.
